On Sunday, May 22 The Bay State Council of Divers will hold a Treasure Hunt at
Stage Fort Park, Gloucester, Massachusetts.
The Bay State Council of Divers is the only organization which represents all
of the divers of Massachusetts. Its function is both to promote fellowship
among divers belonging to different local organizations and also unaffiliated
divers and to lobby the state legislature for legislation favorable to divers
and against legislation unfavorable to divers. It welcomes as members all
divers in Massachusetts and neighboring states. The Council also seeks to
develop favorable relationships with all the regulatory agencies.
The Treasure Hunt is the Council's annual fund raising event, and all divers
in Massachusetts and neighboring states are invited to participate. There
will be two events: first a SCUBA event and then a snorkel event. The SCUBA
event consists of collecting specified objects from the bottom. These are
then exchanged for chances to win prizes in a drawing which takes place after
the snorkel event. All the local dive shops have been very generous in
donating prizes, so there are a lot of very attractive prizes to be won. The
snorkel event also consists of collecting objects from the bottom, this time
by teams of 6 snorkelers representing dive clubs or any other group that can
get together a team of 6. The winning team is awarded a trophy.
Registration will take place from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM, and the SCUBA event will
begin promptly at 10:00 AM with all entrants suited up and at the water's
edge. The snorkel event will begin after the completion of the SCUBA event.
There is a parking lot across the road from the park, and before June 1 there
is no charge. It is also a fine place for a picnic, so bring your lunch. The
registration fee is $10.00 the day of the event or $7.50 if the Council
receives it by May 19. Anyone wishing to pre-register should send his/her
name, address, phone number, dive club affiliation (if any), and certification
data along with a check for $7.50 to:
The Bay State Council of Divers
55 Sea Street
Quincy, MA 02169
Also if you wish to join the Council (and the Council hopes you do) add $5.00,
the Council's annual dues. Memberships will also be available at the event.
To reach Stage Fort Park take Route 128 north to Route 133 and head east on
133 toward Gloucester. Note that the turnoff to 133 is before you cross the
Annisquam River. Stage Fort Park is at the intersection of 133 and 127.
The bay State Council of Divers thanks you for your support.
