All right, let's go there for a moment.
I've been avoiding this avenue because I thought the principles that
apply here were obvious, but maybe they aren't.
What do we do about the "captains" who are adamantly opposed to, for
instance, the DIR system?
What do we do about the captains who take your directive to heart, and
begin by stating that NO ONE dives off this boat without double bladdered
bondage wings? What do we do with captains who refuse to let soloist dive
at all?
What do we do with DMs who bench anyone who doesn't have a snorkel? Who
doesn't carry ditchable weights? Who breathes the long hose? Who has
bondage wings? Who doesn't have bondage wings?
On, and on, and on, and on...
I agree that the DIR system is the best in the world.
But not everyone does, and some of them claim to be captains, and there's
THOUSANDS of Dive "masters" who haven't got a clue. Do we have them
enforce their views, too? Separating out the legal issue, which I agree
is a good idea for this discussion, do we let every fucking dive shop
monkey work himself into a lather and change dive profiles, based on his
13 PADI dives?
In short, once we step over the edge on this slippery slope, where does
it end?

"Who wants to live forever?"

"I swear, I'm going to live forever"
