Subject: Re: Diver Trying For Record Dies
Go and read Jacque Cousteau's The Silent World (published 1950, and
mentioned recently on this list), p. 130 in the paperback edition for a
deep air story.

The death of their fellow diver Maurice Fargues was all the proof they
needed that air beyond 300 fsw (!) was completely unsustainable. Do we
really all need to exercise the scientific method and prove the
repeatability of this ourselves, or can we not just accept that air is a
toxic gas deeper than 200 fsw?

What do all these "record" divers think they're going to get? Hot
chicks and a place in the Guinness book? Hey, lots of divers have dived
deeper than you already; it's just that most of them don't come back.
YOU won't be coming back either, most likely. Think twice...

I'll be transcribing the Cousteau deep-air death experience and posting
it on my website shortly, when I get the redesign together. Right now,
there's nothing there, but stay tuned; will be at www.cambanks.com in a
while. Also get ready for the next evolution of DIR: DIB, or Doing It
Bandicootian ;-) As far beyond DIR as DIR is beyond bungie wings and
air ponies...
